The Tax Assessor Who Makes House Calls: Fulton County’s Kasey Lee Featured on The Good Government Show

New York, NY — March 2, 2026— Most people don’t look forward to meeting the tax assessor. But in Fulton County, Indiana, Assessor Kasey Lee is changing that — by bringing her office directly to the people.

Lee, a recipient of a National Association of Counties Achievement Award, is featured in the latest episode of The Good Government Show, where she discusses her innovative Fulton County Assessor’s Mobile Office — a program that takes property tax assistance into communities across the county. On weekends and evenings, Lee sets up temporary offices in townships and neighborhoods, helping residents understand their property assessments and tax bills face-to-face.

“I’m a taxpayer too,” Lee says in the interview. “I don’t want to have to overpay, so why should somebody else have to overpay?”

Instead of requiring residents to visit the county office during business hours, Lee meets them where they live — sometimes even making house calls. What began as a small outreach effort has grown into a widely used public service, with residents now lining up on Saturday mornings to speak with her. The program operates at no additional cost to taxpayers and is funded entirely through Lee’s own time and commitment.

Lee says her mission goes beyond assessing property values. She sees her work as an opportunity to rebuild trust between citizens and local government. “I’m most proud of the fact that I feel like I’ve bridged the gap between people being afraid of what county government can do versus what we can actually do for them,” she said. “Be the person that you want to deal with when you come into the building.”

Host Dave Martin called Lee “an impressive public servant whose work shows what good government looks like in practice.” The episode highlights how simple ideas — clear communication, accessibility, and personal service — can make government more effective and more trusted.

Kasey Lee’s appearance continues The Good Government Show’s mission of spotlighting public servants who are making government work better for their communities.
